Privacy Policy

1. Data Ownership & Local Storage
Budget Mint is built offline-first. Your financial records — including transactions, accounts, budgets, debts, categories, notes, and finance profiles — are stored locally in a secure database on your device. Local data stays on your device unless you sign in so that cloud backup and sync can run.
2. Account & Authentication
To use cloud features you may create an account with email and password, or sign in with Google or Apple. Depending on the method you choose, we may process your email address, display name, and profile photo. Optional personal details you enter in Settings (such as phone number, date of birth, gender, or occupation) are stored to personalize your account and are synced with your cloud profile when signed in.
3. Cloud Backup & Sync
When you are signed in, Budget Mint backs up and syncs your app data to Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) so you can restore it on another device. This may include transactions, categories, budgets, debts, profiles, and related settings. Sync is used only to provide the backup and multi-device experience. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored using Firebase security controls.
4. Tours & Shared Group Data
If you create or join a Tour (group trip / shared expenses), tour details — such as the tour name, members, expenses, settlements, invite code, and related notes — are stored in the cloud so every participant can see the shared ledger. Other members of that Tour can view shared tour information you contribute. Do not add sensitive personal data to a Tour that you are not comfortable sharing with its members.
5. Photos & Media
With your permission, Budget Mint may access your camera or photo library so you can set a profile photo, tour cover image, or expense receipt. Images you upload for cloud features may be stored in Firebase Storage and linked to your account or shared Tour. You can remove or replace these images from within the app where editing is available.
6. Device Permissions & Notifications
Depending on your device and choices, Budget Mint may request access to biometrics (Face ID / fingerprint), camera, photos, contacts, and notification permission. With your permission, contacts are used only so you can pick a name and phone number when adding a party or debt, or sending a payment reminder. We do not upload your full address book to our servers — only details you choose to save in the app may be stored with your app data and synced when you are signed in. Local notifications (for example budget alerts or spending summaries) are scheduled on your device. We do not collect or store your biometric templates — unlocking uses your device’s secure hardware.
7. Security & Encryption
Your local database lives in the app’s isolated storage, accessible only to Budget Mint on your device. Network traffic to Firebase uses encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS). When biometric lock is enabled, opening the app requires your device authentication. Keep your device unlocked only for trusted people and protect your account password.
8. Third-Party Services
We use Google Firebase for authentication, database sync, and file storage, and may use Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple for account login. These providers process data according to their own privacy policies. Budget Mint does not integrate third-party advertising SDKs or sell your data to advertisers.
9. No Selling or Unrelated Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or lease your financial data, email, or profile information to advertisers or data brokers. We share data only as needed to operate the app: with Firebase/Google/Apple for auth and sync, and with other Tour members for shared Tours you join or create.
10. Your Rights & Data Deletion
You control your data. You can edit or delete transactions, profiles, and many records inside the app. You can delete your entire account from Settings (Danger Zone), which removes your account and associated cloud backups we maintain. Shared Tour records may remain visible to other members where needed for an active group ledger until that Tour data is removed by its participants or host processes. Deletion of your account cannot be undone. Full steps are on our Delete Account page.
11. Children’s Privacy
Budget Mint is intended for general audiences managing personal or household finances. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Policy Changes & Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Budget Mint after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy. Please review this page periodically.
